Owner and Executive Chef Jimmy Wu created a dazzling restaurant with a dramatic bronze mirrored ceiling, plush red carpeting, and comfortable seating. An etched glass wall opposite a long marble bar, picturesque murals, large Chinese statues and vases complete the grand and inviting surroundings. He recently redecorated the place and added sparkling chandeliers. But this is only a glimpse of what is ahead.
Orchid’s chef Huan-Sheng Zhu once cooked for China’s Prime Minister Tang Chao Ping and has won many awards in his native country. He is famous for his beautiful and highly intricate carvings of birds and flowers that are made from various fruits and vegetables, and exceptional food presentations. These elaborate carvings are prominently featured at Orchid’s banquets. There are more than 26 house specialties to choose from, both Cantonese and Szechuan. Jimmy prides himself on his authentic Chinese preparations that look exquisite and taste delicious. Recommended dishes are Honey Spare Ribs, Grand Marnier Shrimp, and Orange Flavored Beef. Zagat called the Peking Duck “prepared to perfection” and “artfully served.” All plate preparations are brilliant and visually appealing. Also available are special, authentic Chinese delicacies for the Chinese patrons. There are reasonably priced fine wines available by the glass and service is friendly and attentive.
