Welcome to Roth's Westside Steakhouse. The first thing anyone will notice about Proprietor Marc Roth's establishment, is that it's not your father's steakhouse. There is no dark forbidding wood paneling, no yellow gas lights or clouds of acrid cigar smoke. The decor portrays that this is a place of beautifully prepared, high quality meat, without surrendering to the established ambiance of the traditional steakhouse decor. It surpasses the trend in other ways. It's not in midtown or in a business or civic district, as most of the city steakhouses are. It is in a residential neighborhood in the Upper West Side.
There are still some elements of muscularity people associate with the New York Steakhouse. The decor is reminiscent of a finca. The tables are well spaced and there is a broad terrace for al fresco summer nights. There are comfortable leather-skirted chairs upholstered in a plaid that conjures up Burberry. The staff educates the diners in the finer points of steak lore, exhibiting trays of traditional well-marbled cuts from table to table. The syllables of a jazz trio float unobtrusively across the restaurant.
Roth's steak is top choice. The porterhouse and T-bone cuts are aged 21-27 days, which tenderizes the meat and intensifies its flavor. Selecting one of these fine cuts is recommended to fully experience a Westside Steakhouse dinner.
