One side of Yokohama’s brick exterior features a lighthouse-shaped turret. This beacon draws customers to supremely fresh sushi, sashimi, and Asian fusion cuisine. The theme continues in the sushi bar’s dining area, where the planked wooden ceiling resembles a ship’s deck. White walls with dark wood molding take on a minimalist elegance. A main dining room leads to a party room open on busy Saturday nights and for private events. Stairs lead down to yet another room, visible through brick arches, where framed Japanese prints line the walls. A lively cocktail bar offers a well-edited wine list, designer martinis and a variety of hot and premium cold sake.
Professional sushi chefs turn out fine sashimi, house-designed special rolls and breathtaking chef’s selection entrees served tableside in deep round trays. Signature appetizers include mango and king crab salad, a heaping bowlful of salty crab and chunks of sweet mango tossed with Japanese mayonnaise and tobiko. Toro tartar boasts big, firm cubes of the freshest bluefin tuna served atop yuzu soy sauce.
Hot kitchen dishes reveal Yokohama’s designation as Asian Fusion. A lobster mango roll is a sushi-spring roll hybrid while delicate Chilean sea bass is bathed in Chinese style black bean sauce. Homemade desserts include a mango tart boasting a trio of textures. The chewy brownie crust, soft fruit puree and silky green tea ice cream melting on top combine into one sublime ending.
