Bonito is a small tuna vital to traditional Japanese cooking. It is also a restaurant that relies on those classic techniques to prepare fresh, authentic Japanese cuisine in a stunning waterfront setting. The only Japanese restaurant located on the Woodcleft Canal, it boasts a table-covered pier which emerges from the dining room right onto the water. Guests can sip sake and dine on sushi bar appetizers, specialty rolls and kitchen entrees while taking in sensational sea air and views. The restaurant’s boat slips allow guests to arrive via canal.
Inside, Japanese art prints accent dark wood walls with black trim and pale bamboo treatments. A decorative Daiko drum makes itself heard on birthdays. The main dining room features a stocked sushi bar and five hibachi stations that accommodate up to 10 people. Four carpeted tatami rooms boast impressive water views as well as a traditional dining experience with shoji doors that close for privacy. The bar mixes popular cocktails in addition to Japanese innovations like the sake breeze and the sayonara, a sweet blend of vodka and plum wine.
With a sushi chef, hibachi chefs and a kitchen chef, choosing from Bonito’s menu can be a challenge. If you’re undecided, order “The Yacht” and sample everything in one dish! This impressive dinner for two includes soup or salad, edamame, sashimi, sushi, a rainbow roll, shrimp and vegetable tempura, beef negimaki, yakitori, and fried banana with 2 scoops of ice cream for dessert.
With superb food and an attentive staff in a relaxing and comfortable environment, the name of one of Bonito’s many specialty rolls sums up the whole experience: Wow.
