The restaurant scene in Bay Shore is flourishing. The latest Japanese eatery is Aji 53. Owner Barry Huang opened his place with style and enthusiasm. Partners, Chefs Ken Zheng and Leo Wang add great, creative food to the formula.
In the entryway is a wall whimsically decorated with mah jongg and domino tiles. The restaurant has different sections, each with its own character. One dining section has a wall of banquettes opposite the sushi bar. In the back is a more intimate area with a large table, ideal for business or social gatherings. On the other side of the sushi bar is an underlit marble liquor bar and a dining area with booths, tables and comfortable chairs. The colorful restaurant is alive with activity.
Everyone is here for the food. They offer pristine sushi and sashimi, innovative dishes, the likes of which we’ve never eaten. A particular favorite was Samosa Ahi Tuna, coated with potato noodles, lightly fried and served with crispy rice pebbles in an Asian spicy sauce. The chefs make good use of truffles and truffle oil. Seared white tuna had a sprinkling of truffle bits and Surf n Turf, a combo of scampi, lobster tail and filet mignon had the most delicious truffle mushroom sauce. At Aji 53, the freshest best ingredients are used to make dishes that are splendid. Even dessert was outstanding. Mochi, ice cream coated with rice flour dough is a yummy authentic Japanese treat. Enjoy wine, sake or a exotic mixed drink or cocktail with your meal.
