Pomodoro, a Huntington favorite in a prime new location, dishes authentic Italian cuisine in a comfortable, relaxed setting. Decorated like a classic trattoria, complete with red and white checkered tablecloths, exposed brick walls and wooden floor, the restaurant is equally suited to lively family dinners and romantic meals for two.
We started with hunks of divine homemade focaccia to accompany appetizers like skewered shrimp with citrus caper berry sauce and a crisp chopped salad. Pappa al Pomodoro, a Tuscan staple of herbed tomato soup served in a scooped out loaf of bread, is a meal in itself. Stellar seafood includes a striped bass special, pan seared with grilled scallops and broccoli rabe. Mediterranean-inspired salmon is colorful and delicious with artichoke, fennel, olives, capers, tomato salad, pesto and roast pepper puree. Traditional pasta dishes like penne with Italian sausage, portobello mushrooms in tomato sauce and zuppa di pesce in light tomato broth are both a treat. Meatballs are homemade and enormous, perhaps the best we’ve ever had. House made desserts showcase perfectly prepared staples like panna cotta, tiramisu and a chocolate souffle with ice cream.
Wall sconces shaped like grape clusters recall Italian countryside vineyards; indulge that fantasy by sipping an Italian red at the wood and granite topped bar, one of the rewards of the move, along with menu updates and better specials. After all these changes, Pomodoro is still home to the same chef and servers as its earlier incarnation, ensuring courteous and friendly service from a staff that has been there for years, loyal and enduring as any favorite Italian dish.
