When chef-owner Jacqueline Sharlup discovered the word “tula” which means balance in sanskrit, she knew it was the perfect name for her restaurant. As Jackie says, “to be surrounded by delicious, nutritious food, good company and enjoy oneself implicity is to be at tula.”
The restaurant has its own unique character. The vibe is sexy with deep red stucco walls, a variety of light fixtures, a wall of banquettes with decorative pillows and a large statue of Buddha at the entrance to welcome you. The long bar is an informal place to meet friends and enjoy a selection from their wine list (some of the wines are organic) and listen to the eclectic mix of music.
Jackie, a truly passionate chef, worked in various restaurants for many years and received some formal training at a vegetarian cooking school. She focuses on healthy recipes and uses many organic ingredients. There are some vegan selections on the menu as well. Our favorites were grilled Asian salmon salad with sauteed mushrooms and roasted asparagus topped with a savory sesame dressing - a wonderful combination of flavors and textures, and an entree of turkey loaf and root vegetable pancakes with a side of apple sauce. Healthy cooking sure has come a long way! The flavors were real, nothing was heavy and nothing was complicated. For dessert, we reveled in the dream bars with French vanilla ice cream. What a perfectly sweet ending.
Tula Kitchen is a relaxing place to enjoy a delicious meal in a dramatic setting. LIVE MUSIC; LUNCH & DINNER SPECIALS; TASTING DINNERS; WINE DINNERS; PRIVATE PARTIES; CATERING; TAKE OUT; HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE
