Owned and operated by Vito Patronelli, Basil Leaf Cafe certainly has its own personality. Nestled in a quaint shopping plaza, the restaurant is made up of two buildings joined by a common patio which is used for summer dining. The charming dining rooms have different looks, one romantic with tones of green and floral drapes, the other with a large brick bar, wood burning stove and terra cotta flooring, and vintage photographs of movie stars. There is a third room upstairs for private parties.
Which ever room you dine in, the food comes from the same wonderful kitchen of Executive Chef Marco Divina who trained in northern Italy. He came to the US and worked in several impressive NYC restaurants before settling on Long Island. Together with Vito he created a diverse menu of regional Italian dishes that may not be what you expect. Foods are not fried and cream and butter are not included in their recipes. Everything is made fresh and on the light side. Specialties of the house include homemade pastas, fresh fish and thirteen different kinds of pizza. Two popular entrees are Tagliolini con Gamberi e Arugula - fresh homemade spaghetti with shrimp and Costolette D?Agnello Grigliate alle Erbe Aromatiche - grilled domestic baby lamb chops with mixed herbs. Chef Marco also makes the best desserts: Crema Toasta - Italian creme brulee, Panna Cotta alle Mandorle - almond cream custard in raspberry coulis and Torta di Cioccolato - individual warm chocolate tart with vanilla gelatto are among the favorites.
Vito greets his diners with a friendly smile and a warm hello and you know you?re in for a special treat.
