A trip to Piccola Bussola will remind you of mama’s home cooking both in quality and quantity. More casual than their other restaurant, La Bussola in Glen Cove, 516-671-2100, Piccola Bussola has been tastefully
redecorated with oak paneling, stained glass wall sconces, tones of beige, with forest green and cinnamon carpeting that creates a comfortable ambiance. Their handsome
bar is a great place to enjoy a drink before you are seated at this popular restaurant that is always bustling with hungry diners. Owned by the Lubrano family, Piccola Bussola is managed by Tony and John Lubrano.
Chef Felix Girasaki, from Peru, started at La Bussola in 1982, was trained by owner Pasquale Lubrano, and is now the chef at Piccola Bussola. The waitstaff is totally professional, and many of them have been with the restaurant since it opened.
All the selections on the menu are served family style (with portions for two or more), on a platter rather than a plate. The Caesar Salad, one of their best dishes, is very fresh and crispy with lots of zesty dressing. Shrimp Marinara served over linguine consists of large shrimp and their great homemade marinara sauce. Warm, fresh Italian bread is served with your meal. Desserts are as large as the entrée selections - tiramisu - believed by many, to be the best on Long Island, is topped with pieces of chocolate. Wines are reasonably priced with an excellent house chianti available.
A steady clientele of devoted regulars, and families that enjoy casual dining, make Piccola Bussola a favorite on Long Island. The family opened a second Piccola Bussola, 159 Jericho Tpke, Mineola, 516-294-4620. ON & OFF PREMISE CATERING; TAKE OUT;
