I'm looking for a place to host my husband's 50th surprise birthday party Labor Day weekend. It wouldn't be a full dinner, just appetizers/hors d'ouevres and drinks. I'm looking for somewhere casual/informal, and am expecting probably 50 people. Somewhere in Nassau would be ideal.

My boyfriend and I love this place! The service is great and the food is amazing. It's very hard to get both of those in restaurants lately and it isn't over priced either. If you order a pitcher of margaritas, they come and stir and pour it for you often. There are some less classy mexican/spanish restaurants in the area and Marias blows them away! I have some food allergies and they were very accommodating! Definitely worth a try. I can't wait to go back!!!

Bistro Sage in Bellmore is excellent. High quality french food. You will find meat and fish. The owners are very nice. Its small though so you may have a wait. Its very good so it can be crowded at all times. Its worth it though. The desserts are EXCELLENT and prices are very fair

I ate there in the 50s untill the 70's and my father and grandfather before me, when the restaurant was located around the corner from the Calderon Theater which is also gone today.
By the end of the 60's I had attempted to duplicate the chile about 50 times without success. One day while eating something else I tasted that flavor that won me over at the Rangers. I went home and remade my chile with those ingredients and it was perfect. I then went to the Texas Ranger in Freeport and ordered a small bowl of chili, I ate it and then poured my Chili from a small hot thermous into the bowl,I brought it up to the grandson doing the cooking, whom I knew from his first day. I told him there was something wrong with the chile and he said, impossible.He tasted my chile and said, there's nothing wrong with this, its perfect. Thats when I new I finally fiqured out a recipe that closely duplicated his.
Owe, and almost forgot, I also figured out the secret sause on the bugers called "specials" and have injoyed all this all these years.
Thanks to all the wonder people from the families that have owned and worked there.

Ha, I'm not sure what you mean by "adventurous bar"...I never actually ate at G's so I'd be no help there. I know they serve some limited availability stuff like Bulldog gin (good summer mixer) and their wine list is pretty good (California Pinots, etc). I was there for a business function about a year back; my co-supervisor and I drank ourselves under the table (which was very accommodating). Sorry I can't be more help...

You must try Riodizio Churrascaria in Roslyn Heights. Its a brazilian steakhouse where they come around with skewers of delicious meat to your table in addition to their gourmet appetizer bar. Lots of fun and the meal is price-fixed which makes splitting the bill very convenient.

I live in Maryland now,but I remember Pastrami King as a kid when you were located in Kew Gardens. I never had a sandwich like that since. I'm 40 years old now, but the memory is still fresh in my mind. Some people don't truly understand what a real kosher pastrami sandwich tastes like, but I miss it. When I visit New York again Pastrami King will definitely be one of the first places I stop. Thank you for keeping that wonderful flavor and tradition together.

I live in Merrick near Pastrami King and go there often.
The pastrami is the best anywhere and the fries are super.

I usually get breakfast food there no matter what time of day I go. Recently I tried one of their entree salads. It was fresh and exciting. It's great that one restaurant can be so good for any type of meal AND I can bring my kids! They love the ice cream sundaes.
