Downtown Brooklyn gained a pair of upscale establishments in October 2010: Barneys New York for unique clothing and Pardes Restaurant for fine dining. Both are blocks away from the Atlantic Center Mall.
Pardes derives its name from the Hebrew word for a park or orchard; indeed, gorgeous green-hued walls and a backyard garden create a diner’s oasis. The interior strikes a balance between modern style, and classic décor: a contemporary chandelier shares ceiling space with a metal-encased bronze fixture, and exposed-brick walls contrast with dark-wood floors and marble bar.
Prior to opening Pardes with wife Shana, chef-proprietor Moses Wendel worked at some of the most exclusive eateries in Philadelphia, including PIF, Django and Laboheme; he was also the executive chef at Mosaica, and headed Basil NY. At Pardes, he shaped a Pan-Mediterranean menu, which has dishes with the flavors of French, Spanish, Italian, Moroccan and Middle Eastern cuisines, along with classic American burgers and sandwiches.
