ABOUT Basil Pizza & Wine Bar

Basil, Brooklyn’s one of a kind pizza and wine bar, is making headlines. This upscale dairy restaurant has made its debut into the Hassidic neighborhood of Crown Heights, with great acclaim from The New York Times to the Wall Street Journal to Wine Spectator. Heavily patronized by a diverse crowd from surrounding areas, Basil’s trendy menu and ambience attracts a steady flow of customers.

Owned by Daniel Branover and led by manager, Clara Perez, this Italian bistro specializes in unique menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night specialties. Offering wood-burning oven pizza, homemade pastas, salads, pressed Panini and fish dishes, Basil’s menu is certainly not for the ‘hamburger-French fry-chicken nugget’ crowd. Try the Arugula Salad for a wonderful blend of flavors – warm goat cheese, beets, arugula, truffle vinaigrette and pine nuts, or the White Asparagus Pizza – parmiggiano, smoked paprika, Vidalia onions, roasted peppers and white asparagus – for a warm, crusty and filling meal. And, of course, don’t miss the famous Basil Fries – crunchy, homemade fries topped with parmesan cheese and basil, served with a warm garlic-mayo dipping sauce.

[continued above, right]

With its calming interior, pleasant wait staff and background music, Basil is the perfect place to relax after a long day, or to bring one’s sweetheart for a special night out. The sleek, steel furniture is softened by the warm glow the pizza oven casts over the room.  Sample Basil’s superior collection of red and white wines and assorted beers, and don’t forget to look at the dessert menu. Cheese cake, funnel cake, tiramisu and – by far the most unusual but highly recommended – Creamy Avocado Ice Cream.  Sound strange? Try it! You will be pleasantly surprised by the exquisite, delicate taste of this green, creamy delight.

Coming to Basil? Make a day of it. Visit Chabad World Headquarters and the Jewish Children’s Museum. End your day with a leisurely meal at Basil Pizza & Wine Bar and savor the flavors you will taste. A party room is available for large parties.

Food was excellent but the portions were very small. We are not big eaters and we left hungry.
