Levana, tucked away below an Upper West Side townhouse, is a restaurant unique in the world of elegant Glatt Kosher dining. Not only is the quality extraordinary, but the people who operate Levana- brothers Sol, Avrum and Maurice Kirschenbaum- have devoted the better part of their lives to assuring pleasure throughout your visit. Levana is named for Levana Kirschenbaum, wife of Maurice, who for more than 20 years has delighted New Yorkers with her bakery, catering business, cooking classes and popular cookbook, Levana’s Table.
The restaurant is just a short stroll from Lincoln Center, with ready access to public transportation. So an evening of Lincoln & Levana promises great dining excitement plus terrific theater. Furthermore, Lincoln Center subscribers get special discounts for lunch and dinner. At Levana, there are always new and exciting special events happening, such as wine dinners and dinner theater.
Levana’s Executive Chef, Mark Hennessey has been preparing first class cuisine, that is echoed by the Zagat Survey, which states, “the glatt kosher cooking is so tasty an outsider wouldn’t know it unless told, featuring exotic choices like venison and bison besides their super steak.” The restaurant is known for serving unusual and rare meats, such as quail and goose. Their new wine bar features 25 red and white wines by the glass.
The restaurant also has a very reasonable Prix Fixe Dinner, especially for Manhattan, for only $29.95, which includes an appetizer, entree and dessert. In addition, virtually anything from their regular menu can be perfectly packaged for enjoyment at home, or anywhere else. They've put together on-the-beach meals for 40, and elegant luncheons for 2 on the terrace at home.
From the moment you enter Levana, you'll begin to experience the tranquility of the space, the enthusiasm of the staff, and the joys of great cooking. The entire Kirschenbaum family says: "Welcome!" |
