While largely neighborhood based, Sushi Metsuyan in Cedarhurst, has recently become more of a destination spot for all New York City diners. It is no exaggeration to say that they are one of the best kosher Pan-Asian eateries in the country. It is simply, a great restaurant that happens to be kosher, not a kosher restaurant that happens to be great. And don’t let the name fool you. They specialize in everything sushi but their menu features Vietnamese, Thai and Korean dishes, with outstanding steaks, chicken and fish to satisfy any appetite.
The sushi bar at the front of the room offers diners the ability to get up close and personal with the friendly sushi chefs that are eager to please. Among its many wonderful features, is a breathtaking room-sized fish tank. Besides being a tease, it is live art. At fifty feet long, it is the longest continuous indoor salt-water reef in the world. Fish of many colors sparkle along the tank. All the woodwork in the restaurant is of natural, light tones, and cut into curvaceous waves to complete the soothing experience. In addition, the magnificent stone-carved sculpture mounted on the wall, commissioned overseas especially for Sushi Metsuyan, is the height of artwork. It’s impressive without being oppressive.
Owners Daniel Berlin, Sushi Chef Bernard Benlevi and the Yousfan family set out to create a menu like no other. They all share a passion for fine art and food perfection. House specialties include BBQ Lamb Spare Ribs, Metsuyan Kalbi, Honey Sesame Chicken, and the addictive Volcano Roll. A list of mouth watering desserts can’t arrive to your table soon enough. Everything is fresh and made with the most expensive ingredients, assuring the customer of a great tasting meal.
The upscale decor and ambiance makes Sushi Metsuyan an ideal place to impress an important client, as well as celebrate a special occasion. See for yourself why out-of-towners beg the owners to move the restaurant closer to their city! |
