With the success and popularity of Le Marais, owner and Executive Chef Jose Meirelles knew that he wanted to expand but how and where? When an opportunity across the street opened up, he grabbed the chance to make it kosher and offer his loyal clientele a more casual answer to Le Marais. Clubhouse Cafe is it exactly that. The contemporary style restaurant has a private, nightclub feel, with exposed brick wall, lounge lighting with black benches and tables. The calm, background music is perfect to get you into that relaxed “chilled-out” mood you’ve yearned for all day.
There is no question this is the hot, trendy and stylish new kosher restaurant of 2008. Jose opened the restaurant to provide and alternative to the high end kosher restaurants in the area. And with Jose anchoring ship, you know that you’re going to get the same great service with terrific food as you expect from Le Marais.
With a full bar area, one can sit while waiting for a date or business meeting. Specialty drinks include the Clubhouse Punch, Caipirrinha and Passion Fruit Poncha. There are many great ways to start off your meal including the Sheppards Salad; Arugula, Orange & Avocado Salad; and even chicken wings. There are some signature dishes like the Club House Steak, Dominique’s foot long hot dog or spicy beef chili with avocado relish that will sizzle your tastebuds. Staying with the the theme of their casual menu, Southern Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes on gravy is highly recommended. For dessert, try their homemade chocolate tart.
The Zagat survey predicts that the cafe “will be most popular for weekday lunches.” And because the restaurant is open late, especially on Saturday nights, so if you are leaving a broadway show and are in the mood for a calm, club-like evening with great cuisine and ambiance, you can join the party at the Clubhouse Cafe. |
