It was high time for the Upper East Side to have a casual and elegant dairy restaurant perfect for locals and tourists. Fulfilling a great need in the area, U Café, named for owner and chef Udi Ben-Ari, has a European atmosphere. It is certainly not your typical Israeli dairy café. Designed by Udi's mother, Cyna, the restaurant features French doors in front, track lighting above, comfortable chairs and fresh flowers on each table thus setting the stage for a relaxed and delicious meal.
Great feedback has already come in for the café, from the magnificent presentation to exquisite taste to generous portions. One customer comments that "the food here is presented like a 5-star restaurant." Another diner says: "U Café is the perfect place to meet a friend for dinner. With good food, reasonable prices, and friendly wait-staff, it's a lovely place to spend a meal."
For lunch or dinner, specialties include a Mediterranean Platter, the Blue Cheese Veggie Burger and a variety of gourmet sandwiches and salads. The Haloumi Salad and Caprese Tower
are works of art that you will admire before taking your first bite. You can also request the special Appetizer, Seared Tuna served on a bed of Home Made Guacamole with Mango. For Entrées, recommendations from the Chef include, Halibut with Espresso Cardamon Seasoning and Pan-Seared Salmon Steak. Furthermore, the restaurant offers great smoothies and delectable desserts, including the Homemade Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce and the Homemade Crème Brulée, perfect with a Cappuccino or Espresso.
The café is located in close proximity to The Metropolitan Museum of Art (5th Ave. & 82nd) as well as the Jewish Museum. A great way to spend a Sunday is to enjoy the Frittata which is
one of the generous Sunday Brunch choices be their Omelet or French Toast or a delectable Smoked Salmon and Goat Cheese Egg White Omelet. The #6 train is just a few blocks away and should you want to drive, parking is usually available, especially compared to Midtown. The café is also a great place for a date as well as for celebrating engagement parties, Sheva Brachot or a Brit Milah. |
