Succah On Succot: No Nine Days Menu: Yes Open For Pesach: No
*Temporarily closed until after Pesach*
Opened since November 2006, Taste of China is located in the Days Inn Hotel, just a few blocks off 41st Street. Shomer Shabbos owner Jack Jacobowitz gives specialized attention to the consumer, understanding their needs and providing it to them. In fact, and for your convenience, the Chinese staff all speak Hebrew.
The restaurant’s dining room is well lit and gives off a warm atmosphere. When you first come in you will be greeted by their friendly staff. For starters, the house special platter is recommended, so you can sample all their delicious appetizers, which includes egg roll, sesame chicken, chicken wings, beef sate and chicken curry triangles. The BBQ Beef or Veal ribs is also a good idea.
Moving on to entrees, you have plenty of chicken, beef, duck or fish selections. The Orange Beef Szechuan style, Mongolian Beef and Singapore Noodles with chicken, beef or veal are highly suggested. For duck, make sure you try the Peking Duck for two. It’s a complete dinner that is sliced and served with Mandarin pancakes, fried rice, duck soup and a choice of dessert. Just call 24 hours ahead, if you’re going to request it. For fish lovers, they have Pan Fried Sea Bass, Crispy Fish Szechuan style, steamed Whole yellow Tail and Salt & Pepper Fish Filet. They also have a set menu for some of their Continental dishes, like a 24 oz. Rib Steak, Beef Schnitzel and Roast Chicken. Many vegetarian items as well as a kids menu are available. For dessert, try the fried ice cream or fried banana both coated in batter and deep fried. It’s worth the calories.
The restaurant also offers prepaid Friday and Saturday Shabbat meals with reservations. For Friday night, among other things you will be served assorted salads, gefilte fish, matzo ball soup and a choice of entree; either half roasted chicken, veal shoulder roasts, duck, flanken or stuffed cabbage. All entrees are served with kugel, vegetables as well as cake, coffee/tea. For Saturday afternoon, much is the same, but with chopped liver instead of soup and entrees southern fried chicken, cold cuts and cholent instead of veal, duck and flanken. Advance payment must be made before Friday, 3pm. |
