Olive & Fish is the sister restaurant to "Olive", in the German Colony, having opened about a year later, in 2003. Owners Rafi and Ruth Nahum wanted to be able to provide their valued customers with an expanded and slightly more upscale menu that would also include fish. In addition, so many customers and group agents expressed an interest in and encouraged them to host larger groups, since their seating capacity at "Olive" is rather limited. The Mediterranean-fusion restaurant was recently redecorated, with lots of wood furniture, an attractive wood bar, decking and big windows on the terrace. With beautiful framed mirrors and parquet floor on the second floor dining room, the restaurant is spacious but cozy, with photos and posters of Jerusalem's past and present. Candles and white tablecloths set the scene at night. The lovely upstairs room can be reserved for private groups, family events and business gatherings of up to 60 people, with a menu designed for each groups needs.
Olive & Fish is a special favorite for tourists looking for a good meal to highlight their visit to Israel. The restaurant, with its professional service and well-run kitchen, is sophisticated but not pretentious. Its location across from the Yemin Moshe windmill and Liberty Bell Park places it a short walk from half a dozen of the city's most popular hotels, including the King David, Inbal, David's Citadel and Dan.
Signature dishes include Denise (Sea Bream) Fillet grilled and served on a bed of noodles with artichoke, sun-dried tomatoes, white wine and lemon; and their delicious Entrecote aged steak served with a Portobello-red wine sauce Sorbet. For dessert, get the fondant (chocolate soufflé cake with hot chocolate center) or any of their assorted pies. Business lunch menus and daily fresh specials are available.
The owner of the two restaurants, Rafi Nahum, has much experience in the restaurant business. In fact, he owned The Cardo Culinaria in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City in Jerusalem, where for 10 years, beginning in 1990, he served a typical Roman meal in an authentic setting, complete with togas, fire jugglers and great food to thousands of international and Israeli tourists. |
