Who knew kosher gourmet could be so chic? Make no mistake; the new addition to Rodeo Drive isn't a clothier, but the gourmet A Cow Jumped Over the Moon eatery. Rendering the finest in specialty gourmet fare, style and design, A Cow Jumped Over the Moon combines contemporary with a hint of French country, to master culinary creations suggestive of clients’ discerning tastes.

Tucked away in the "Rodeo Collection" on Rodeo Drive, the discreet and upscale café and epicure offers an appetizing menu suitable for the gourmand and kosher observant alike. Creator and chef Laurent Masliah -- who was born and raised in Normandy France as an orthodox Jew -- set out to create a menu that’s reminiscent of his "favorite childhood ingredients" -- cooking that combines the flavors of gourmet French cuisine with the premium quality of kosher. "But the portions are not French," says Masliah.

For starters, the menu features Beet Douceur (mixed greens topped with marinated red beets, roasted walnuts and warm goat cheese), Smoked Salmon on Blinis (mini pancakes served with Crème Fraiche and Caviar), and Nonfat Fromage Blanc (a cloud of creamy nonfat French yogurt topped with fresh
fruit).

Specialties include arrays of sandwiches served on wooden platters and salads served with warm baguettes on par with what you would find in an authentic French boulangerie.

All dishes reflect the original flavors, aromas and colors, of French culinary with unexpected tastes: crusty baguettes or toasted Ciabbatta lightly spread with olive oil and vinegar and paved with tuna dipped in olive oil and a secret blend of seasoning is served with fresh tomatoes, onions, crisp radish and egg slices paired with an artfully served crunchy cucumber salad.

Desserts include an assortment of Savory Crepes and Crème Brulee Trio (lavender, rosemary and vanilla).

"I think our location is symbolic; we're surrounded by the world’s most fashionable boutiques and we wanted to create the type of cooking and atmosphere that resonates with our clientele’s premium indulgences: an intimate setting where clients are known on a first name basis, along with a unique experience that’s solely devoted to each client’s individual fancy."

The casual ambiance is highlighted with contemporary furnishings in bold colors: orange chairs and sleek rocking chairs surrounding aluminum tables contrast the authentic European backdrop, with brick floors, a soothing fountain and rustic wood shelves that meticulously display luxury products such as delectable handmade chocolates, an exquisite cheese counter serving gourmet varieties, the finest wines, bottled sodas, specialty imported beers, black truffles, and specialty pastas.

A Cow jumped Over the Moon also offers, "to go" gourmet meals, customized gourmet gift baskets, curbside pick-up and delivery.
