Clubhouse Cafe

Exorbitantly priced meals ordered a la carte in small portions served late and lukewarm. The decor appears crisp, but the seats are uncomfortable after an hour, and we waited 2.5 hours for the end of the meal to arrive.

Two Parties To Plan!
Submitted by: Michelle S. on Oct 31st 2008
We are expecting the arrival of our baby boy in late January and I wanted to have some caterers in mind that I could possibly contact via email/phone for the brit?? About a month later, we will be having our daughter's first birthday and since it's the first we were thinking to make it in a restaurant or a party place we could rent and then get the caterers to come to us, although I think the first option seems a little simpler. We're expecting between 50 and 75 guests (approximately), evening party, a place that would allow us to use a room for ourselves where we could bring decorations and some type of music. Any ideas? We are in the Brooklyn, NY area and would truly appreciate any suggestions!

First of all, B'Sha'a Tova.

I'd go to Caraville Glatt on Avenue M. They have two nice size private rooms, which can be made into one. See our website for more info. And ask for Julian, tell him Elan sent you.

Reply #2 submitted by: Michelle S. on Nov 9th 2008
Thanks so much for the suggestion, the funny part is I researched a ton of restaurants while I was waiting for your response and actually found Caraville to be the best option thus far based on location, menu, price etc. We are going to go in person next Sunday to get some more info. As for the brit, I wanted to know if you have any caterers in mind (dairy and fish) for a breakfast that could cater to a shul in Brooklyn?

Reply #3 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Nov 9th 2008
That is funny. For a brit, I like Corner Cafe on Ditmas & McDdonald, ask for Leibi. Please let Caraville and Corner Cafe know I sent you. Let me know how it goes.

Reply #4 submitted by: Michelle S. on Nov 13th 2008
Hey, the oddest thing occurred. I just called Corner Cafe and told them that you had send me and they told me that they dont do catering, then after a few minutes he said he does catering but not for britot? I had asked to speak to Lebbie but I had a feeling it wasn't him because this man sounded just like the one I spoke to last week that told me Lebbie wasn't in, and on top of that he didn't speak with the know-how of an owner or manager...any ideas as to what's going on with their catering? Also any other suggestions?

Morty's Steakhouse
Submitted by: David on Oct 29th 2008
I've never eaten a better steak in my life! The decor is fantastic, the food is delicious and the presentation is quite nice. I've been going there for a few months now since they openned and noticed a huge improvement in the servie too. The wine list is also nice, with a good selection of wines from France, Australia and Israel. I only had their Filet Mignon once, it was very good considering I don't really enjoy Filet Mignon, I'm more of a Rib Steak kinda guy. The meat is aged so its quite tender and soft. They also serve a french-cut Veal Chop which is very nice, so juicy and tasty. I met the owner Morty a few times, young guy, but clearly focused on creating a warm experience for his clients and darn smart too, a kosher steakhouse in montreal... who would of thought! I like their food so much, I'm going to use them to cater my daughter's wedding next summer.

This place is amazing, the design is so beautiful, and it is dimly lit, making it especially acceptable for romantic dinners. The food was delicious, and the waiters are very friendly and service was an A+. A must go to place for everyone.

I'm a regular restaurant eater; however, lately, I've been drawn to the captivating atmosphere that I experience at Eilat Cafe. They have an variety of foods, ranging from sushi and seabass, to pizza and pasta, all of which are delectable and unique. When the food comes to the table, I am caught off guard by the wonderful presentation of each dish delivered, not to mention the attentive servers that are ready to cater to your every need. Eilat Cafe is definitely a place that I will call home when I think about going out to eat.

Morty's Steakhouse
Submitted by: Todd on Oct 1st 2008
Went there a few weeks ago while visiting Montreal. The restaurant appeared to have opened recently as there was a banner covering the previous sign. Very good food and highly recommended. Having said that I hope there are a few kinks that get worked out. 1. We had made reservations. When we showed up they had seated a party of 9 who had reservations but for the next day. We were seated outside (no big deal). 2. When one of our party asked for a certain salad we were told they were out of Romaine lettuce! 3. When we asked for some red wine we were told they only had white as they'd run out of the red. I thought the latter two things might have gotten us an offer of complimentary soft drinks or dessert or coffee but none of that occurred. The waiter was pleasant enough but both he and the bus boy had too many tables. On the menu they list a filet mignon. As best I know this is a non-kosher steak (the eye of the t-bone). We shmoozed with the buthcher who supplies the meat for the restaurant (he couldn't get a table) and were told that while this is a fine cut of meat it's not filet mignon.
