Mike's Bistro Submitted by: Foodie on Jun 19th 2005 After hearing some positive comments, we ventured to make dinner reservations with a friend who does not keep kosher. We had an extremely disappointing experience, from the agonizingly slow service--there was only one other table occupied--to the overcooked steak, which went back once adn returned only slightly improved, the fatty lamb, and the sparse sweetbreads. The black bass was excellent, the only positive note for the evening. It is my unhappy experience that kosher restaurants just don't care to get it right consistently because they have a captive audience.
Reply #1 submitted by: local yokal on Jul 23rd 2005 wow... thats the first bad thing i've ver eread about mikes. I guess you cant please everyone.
you should call them and tell them about your experience...the chef always appreciates customer feedback

Tea for Two South Submitted by: Barry L on Jun 16th 2005 I ate here last week for the first time. This is the first place that I have tasted sushi and enjoyed it. Everyone must try their sushi especially Crunchy and Abracadabra. My friends ate the Italian food, stuffed sole and a pasta with spinach and cream sauce. They loved it. And for dessert we had fried banana with ice cream, Wow! And the servers were rather friendly and accomodating, which is rare for a kosher restaurant in Miami, based on my experiences.
Reply #1 submitted by: OneHotBrasilian on Jun 18th 2005 Hey, had the abracadabra roll there and literally jumped out of my taste buds, the most amazing sushi i have ever tasted and I also eat in traif restaurants too!
Reply #2 submitted by: Matias Dominguez on Aug 14th 2008 I ate here last year.. the food is 100% kosher and the Angelotini, Sebastian is the best meal

Best Brunch in Manhattan Submitted by: Eliot Hillel Lewis on Jun 8th 2005 Where is the best kosher brunch in Manhattan for father's Day?
Reply #1 submitted by: alison at abigaels on Jun 9th 2005 Abigael's will be open for Father's Day, June 20th. Not for brunch though, dinner begins at 4;30. Gift certificates for Father's Day gifts are available too. We hope to see you there!
Reply #2 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Jun 9th 2005 Abigael's is an excellent choice, highly recommend. And, if you are looking for Dairy, may I suggest My Most Favorite Dessert or a new restaurant on Broadway & 98th, La Creperie. Excellent brunch place with terrific crepes (the perfect brunch item). Happy Father's Day!
Casablanca Submitted by: Big M on Jun 5th 2005 good place to eat. I enjoy the burger and fries.
Ranoosh Long Branch Submitted by: Gary Teaman on May 31st 2005 This restaurant is an adventure in eating for lovers of authentic middle eastern cuisine. The appetizers are all delicious, I would highly recommend the kibbe and the hummous for dipping the fresh pita. The Ranoosh Salad offers a huge portion of fresh chopped salad with a flavorful dressing. When we can't decide among the entrees, we enjoy the mixed grill, but the shwarma is also very tasty and highly recommended. On a recent Saturday night the restaurant opened Motzei Shabbos at 9:45pm (when most of Monmouth County is getting ready for bedtime), and quicky filled up with some large parties of young professionals from Deal, as well as some couples on dates. Some people were trying out the hookah pipes that are on the menu with a selection of flavored tobaccos. The service is attentive and friendly, the Mashgiach took care that our wine (BYOB) was handled properly. A very nice dining experience.
Orchidea in boro park Submitted by: joe on May 26th 2005 This is the Best dairy rest, that I have ever been to...in fact this is better then any meat place out there. Everything was just outstanding from the soup, salad, fish dessert. Just outstanding
Reply #1 submitted by: elinchik on Jun 17th 2005 We actually ate there once, and although the ambiance and decor was nice, we found the food quite ordinary.
Reply #2 submitted by: s.g. on May 10th 2007 I've eaten there many a time, and enjoy it very much. It has a beautiful sophisticated decor, and the food is not only presented beautifully, it's good too!
Mike's Bistro Submitted by: Chavie on May 24th 2005 Mike's Bistro is such an amazing restaurant. The ambiance is spectacular, the food is delicious, and the service is top-notch. There is no reason why everyone shouldn't be eating here! ENJOY!
Reply #1 submitted by: joe on May 26th 2005 I thought it was overpriced, we had the tasting menu, the Duck gnocchi had 2 little thin (very thin) strips of duck, the fillet was good, the desserts were nothing special
Reply #2 submitted by: gary on Jun 2nd 2005 the entire dish is slathered in a duck sauce
the meat is pulled into fine strands as a garnish
i loved it...the gnocchi is so yummy

California restaurants Submitted by: Daniel on May 22nd 2005 Could you specify the restaurants for California exist in Los Angeles. Also, there is a glaring omission of one of the top resteraunts in LA; Pat's. Please update this information for your website visitors as soon as possible.
Reply #1 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on May 22nd 2005 Thank you for your interest.
I have been debating to categorize the restaurants by just Los Angeles as well, so I agree and it's been taken care of already.
In terms of Pat's, we hope to have the restaurant in the next issue of the magazine coming out in August. (Keep in mind, all the restaurants on the website are signed up for the magazine)

wedding Submitted by: sarah on May 8th 2005 looking for a lovely ,intimate retaurant to hold a wedding ceremony and dinner for about 60 people. Ambiance and good food is a must. Price is a factor. Want a Sunday, lunch or dinner.Foe end of this June. HELPPPPP!!!!!!
Reply #1 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on May 8th 2005 I would highly recommended Abigael's on Broadway. They have enough enough room for a wedding, and have experience in doing weddings in their restauant. The ambiance and food are terrific. In terms of the price, we can help you book it, and we have certificates to the restaurant that we sell at about 15% off, so that might help offset the costs.
But also where are you looking for? Manhattan, Brooklyn, (Atlantic City happens to have a great kosher steakhouse that does weddings).
Reply #2 submitted by: Anonymous on May 31st 2005 Definately do Abigael's! Great service and excellent food.

the worst dining experience ever Submitted by: A. Gross on Apr 29th 2005 The worst restaurant experience of my life. Talia’s Steakhouse on Amsterdam Ave provided the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant ANYWHERE in the world, EVER. Some of the things that happened: We made a reservation on Tuesday night during Passover and arrived on time at 7:00 pm. It took 1 hour and forty-five minutes for food to be served. There were four of us but we only ever got three entrees. One entree was supposed to come with mashed potatoes, these were missing and when I mentioned it to the waitress, she just shrugged and said she’d bring us French Fries. My salad plate was never removed and we just moved it around the table out of our way as the staff never cleared it. Water glasses were left empty and never replenished. When we asked for salt it couldn’t be found. When my entrée never materialized, I was offered friend fries instead, these never came either. We ordered a steak medium – it came very well done but at this point we were afraid to return it as we knew we would get nothing else.
I paid the bill as I was entertaining out of town guests and didn’t want to cause a scene. We were already mortified with embarrassment by the unbelievably appalling bad service – even leaving a service tip of 15%. More fool me ! I hope this place closes. It deserves to.
Reply #1 submitted by: i hear your pain on Apr 29th 2005 I hear your pain, but serves you right for trying to think you are going to get good service at an establishment kosher for passover.
The place was probably packed and short staffed not to mentioned the confusion in the kitchen with the chef and helpers not understanding what the heck "chometz" or "Gebraks" is. There must have been complete mayaham in the store and people picking up orders, I think you should give the place another chance during a normal non passover week
Reply #2 submitted by: yitz on May 9th 2005 i agree, we were there a while back, 4 adults and 4 kids, we called ahead and they said they are kid friendly, when we got there, thwe place was empty, we went for an early dnner, it took them over 2 hours to serve our mains. I am not shy and i did complain, they gave us a few desserts, which were actually not bad. but i would never go back there again

listings? Submitted by: Debi on Apr 17th 2005 I'm also confused about the listings. I was looking at Shari's in NJ, but there was no town in the address. Where is it? NJ is a state, not a city and I have never heard of Shari's. Would it be possible to put the complete address and phone number in the contact information?
Reply #1 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Apr 17th 2005 In terms of the address, if there is a city that does not have many restaurants, we will FIRST list that restaurant by state. For instance, Shari's is in Atlantic City and they are the only restaurant in Atlantic City we have, so instead of having a drop down box for only Atlantic City or for Vauxhall, NJ in Mosaica's case, we thought it would easier to navigate the "Search by Location" box to just have New Jersey as the primary location.
However, if you noticed, if you click onto any restaurant or it's picture, you will get the entire address, city and even cross streets.
And I'm glad to hear that you discovered Shari's Steakhouse from our website, it happens to be an excellent restaurant.
Thank you for your input and keep those comments coming. Trust me, I don't mind.
