Grille De Paris
Submitted by: Judith Baxter on Feb 12th 2006
We have eaten here on numerous occassions. The service is excellent and the food is on par or better with the best in manhattan. The potato flomp is unreal, the honey dijon salad with chicken and artichoke are awesome, the steaks are big enough to get full on and the baby ribs melt in your mouth. The decor is lovely and the atmosphere is very peaceful. Beats going to the city, fighting for a spot or paying for a garage just for dinner.
Try it, you will not be dissapointed.

Can you get a kosher Gyro? And where can you get schwarma that's good in the city, not Brooklyn or Queens?

Kosher Gyro I'm not sure, but Mr. Broadway (Broadway & 38th Street) has very good Schwarma.

As with anything kosher, to each person kosher might be different. But here are the facts: The supervision is Rabbi Rafael Safra and they are not open on Shabbat. And the resturant says they are Glatt.

Jody told me about your restaurant, and it sounds like the same QUALITY I remember, Gabe, when you used to go with me to shop at Real Foods, and make such delicious meals in my kitchen. I hope to get to Brooklyn sometime and enjoy a meal at Wendy's Plate. My daughter, Talia, is getting married, iy"H, on August 1 in Israel. Since just after Tod, a"h, passed away 8 years ago I've been teaching kindergarten, which I love. Good to see something of what you are doing now. I can imagine you have kids, and Wendy is your wife and paartner. Stay well, hatzlacha in everything!

Charity Scotch Tasting Event at Park East Grill, Feb. 18
Submitted by: Larry Kolodny on Feb 8th 2006

Complete details at: http://boneiolam.info/

Dear Friends,

I am arranging a Scotch tasting for Bonei Olam. The tasting will take place Saturday night, February 18, 2006 at the Park East Grill located at 1564 Second Avenue, between 81st and 82nd Street in Manhattan. Bonei Olam is an organization whose mission is to help orthodox Jewish couples who are experiencing infertility. For information on Bonei Olam please visit their website at www.boneiolam.org.

Go to: http://boneiolam.info/ to find a flyer for the scotch tasting, as well as the preliminary list of scotches for tasting. There will be a raffle for the “Ultimate Scotch Collection” valued at over $1,200 and information for that is also included on the flyer. People can support Bonei Olam by sending in their minimum $100.00 donation for the event or for designated drivers a reduced fee of $40.00. I encourage you to confirm your reservation early as only a limited number of spaces are available. People who come to taste, will receive a tasting notebook and a Glencairn Glass for tasting.

In order to ensure that every penny raised at the event goes to Bonei Olam, we are offering sponsorship opportunities. People who graciously agree to sponsor a portion of the event, will be listed in the tasting book that will be given out at the event. The levels of sponsorship range from Bottle Sponsor ($100), Table Sponsor ($500) or Evening Sponsor ($1,000). Additionally there will be Platinum Sponsorships available for donations over $10,000. The Platinum Sponsor flyer is also on the site.

If you are interested or know anyone who is interested in coming to the event, please email me at bosmst@yahoo.com.

Espresso Café & Sushi Bar
Submitted by: Eric Sorlien on Feb 6th 2006
While waiting for my collie to be groomed, I popped up the block to get a coffee. What I found is the only European bistro in the Northeast Philadelphia. And I loved the Italian Espresso and much more. The Israeli owners, Sharon and Liat Abergel greet you passionately as if they've been waiting for you. It is word of mouth that results in the preponderance of regulars. But it is the artistically presented entrees and unique brunch items that cement the relationship. I am here every Wednesday at 1:10! I order Fettucine Alfredo with a light creamy sauce that does not overwhelm the finely tuned pasta, and I eat mushroom soup, which mushrooms mushrooms. I drink Israeli Spring brand Pear juice and eat a rich dark chocolate croissant.
Israeli television in the cafe accentuates the feeling that you are not in Philadelphia. The artwork gallery is likewise transporting you. Israeli candies and gift baskets by Liat beckon you away. And the Israeli ice cream reminds you of the happier times over there.
In a later visit I brought a European. She was impressed big time. It was the incredibly light and fresh dessert which she did NOT believe could have been jetted from Israel. There is the fresh best of Israel here. It is all wonderful in fact. Bring the kids. There are french fries! Sharon and Liat offer a diverse menu choice as well versed caterers too.
If you are out Saturday night top it off with a full menu until midnight-BYOB.

Our first trip to Espresso Cafe was really enjoyable--very good sushi, gorgeous chocolate crepes topped with fresh bluberries and blackberries, and delicious Israeli coffee. Met some interesting people and Sharon's service was attentive. Will definitely return soon! Thanks, Sharon!

Good article. Ratners Restaurant was on the north side of Delancy Street. Wasn't there a similar restaurant(different name)On the south side of Delancy? My wife and I went there as far back as 1955. If you can, let me know its name.
Thanks,

I tried several times on Friday to contact the restaurant to request reservations for a party of ten for Sunday, Feb. 5 at 12 noon. Preferably a round table. The phone rang incessantly with no one answering. Very frustrating..........and this started at 11 am, again at 12 noon, and again midafternoon. No one answers your phone.
That's not a good business practice.

1868 Restaurant & Bar
Submitted by: elayne gordon on Jan 18th 2006
My sons and I had an outstanding dining experience at 1868. Experience is the only way to describe our nearly three hour meal that seemed to go by all too quickly. The sommelier suggested a lovely wine we had never tried and the wait staff thoroughly described the menu items, encouraging us not to order the same dishes so we could have an opportunity to taste several selections. This was a wise suggestion that enabled everyone at the table to sample several delightful choices. The beautiful presentation was matched by the excellent tasting, very generous portions. An incomparable experience we look forward to repeating in the future.

This is by no means that closest Kosher rest. to the GWB or the northernmost Kosher eatery in Manhattan! Has Washington heights dropped off the map completely?
Reply to this message
Reply #1 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Jan 17th 2006
We do tend to forget about Washington Heights. However, what is written is that it's the "only DAIRY kosher restaurant above 72nd Street" (and by that we mean waiter service restaurant) - we did not write "the northernmost Kosher eatery" and when it's written the "closest kosher restuarant to the GWB" was from a New York City/Manhattan-esque perspective. But you're right, Washington Heights eateries are closer to the GWB and we will fix the wording on that. Thanks for the catch.
