From "The Restaurant Guy" - the answer to your question
Submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Jun 19th 2006

To the person who emailed us this question- you forgot to write your email address, so I am posting it here.

Your question was... My daughters high school graduation on Wednsday. We have 15 relatives attending and would like to go out for dinner at 9PM. Le merais is a favorite place but perhaps too expensive. Any suggestions??

My suggestions are......Abiagel's (Broadway & 39th) is very good, (classic steakhouse and as well as Asian menu) same kind of pricing as Le Marais but more roomy.

Colbeh (39 & 6th) is a fantastic Persian restaurant that has excellent combination platters for 2 or 3 people that will fill you up and not that expensive. Very nice ambiance but not as much room.

Wolf & Lamb Steakhouse (48th & 5th) is a nice looking place, good food and pretty reasonable prices for Manhattan

Or Mendy's (34th Street and Park Avenue) which has recently renovated, is a nice place with good food.

At Abiagel's, ask for Jigi
At Colbeh, ask for Simon
At Wolf & Lamb, ask for Zalmon
At Mendy's, ask for Mendy or Eitan

Let them know that Elan from the "Restaurants Magazine" sent you - they'll take good care of you.

Let me know if you need anything else and where you end up going. Mazel Tov on the graduation!

The food is GREAT service is top knoch, I ordered grilled ribeye steak and wow the portion is generous. I eat there at least once a week, I enjoyed their new menu it's modern/fusion. Their dishes presentations and the food is worth the trip, not to mention their deserts PARADISE!
Kosher food is stepping up the game!

Yi-tzi Peking
Submitted by: David G on May 30th 2006
Raised to believe that fish is a non-edible, I absolutely never thought I would enjoy eating sushi. But after hearing other diners comment how the sushi served at Yi-tzi Peking was better than anywhere else....... I was challenged by friends to try a variety. I am so glad I acquiesed!!! Another addict was created......although I still order their Korean Beef Sticks before dessert!

You're absolutelyt right. Yi-tzi Peking does have great sushi. I was just there Sunday night and had a terric Dragon roll. The sushi chef puts a special warm and sweet sauce under the rolls. Just amazing!

In terms of restaurants, you can either try Kosher on Wheels on 129 North LaBrea Avenue (323-933-0089) or Shimon's La Glatt which I heard has very good (no ambiance but good for take-out) at 446 North Fairfax Avenue (323-658-7730).
Both of these restaurants are off in the religious area of L.A.

You can find a lot of restaurants in the Pico-Robertson area but in terms of Shabbat take-out places, I'm not sure of the small little supermarkets. But once you're on West Pico Blvd. (6 block stretch) there are tons of shops do get something.

If you need specific restaurants on Pico, let me know.

We were there last summer, and called Kosher on Wheels several times. No one answered our calls. We left messages, and our calls were not returned. I wouldn't count on them.

Regarding the false email of a Kosher Restaurant Chef
Submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on May 16th 2006
For Barbara Z. regarding your post, for David G. for writing the letter and anyone else knowing about the email going around:

I have spoken to both restaurant owners about the story concerning the respective Chef and I want to let everyone know that these emails are totally false and please do not resend to your friends.

It is totally irresponsible to send emails like this without knowing what the truth is. This is someone's livelihood that people are playing with and the best thing to do is to squash these rumors before someone gets hurt. Thank you.

caterer under vaad 5t or vaad queens
Submitted by: csb60 on May 11th 2006
Any reccomendations of a caterer for an AufRuf? Needs to be under Vaad of 5T or Queens. Thanks
Reply to this message
Reply #1 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on May 11th 2006
If you're having the aufruf in the 5 Towns and you're not too far from Central Avenue in Cedarhurst, I would recommend having it at Occasions. Really nice looking place, plenty of room and can cater it fully. Their number is (516) 374-9200. Ask for Abe.

But let me know if you're looking to do it in a specific shul and where would that be?

Reply #2 submitted by: csb60 on May 12th 2006
Thanks but we're not close to central ave. Any other suggestions? Which caterer has a delicious product and reasonably priced? Thanks
