Mine is simple- sautee onions, eggplant, peppers add hard boiled egg, and mix on laffa bread with chummas (and tehina combo) and amba. Did you come up with anything?

Gusto Va Mare

We had a birthday celebration at this fine restaurant. We were a group of 16 on a Sunday mid-afternoon. The staff was extrememly attentive to our service. We enjoyed an intimate, leisurely meal. All of our guests raved about the food. We highly recommend this place. It is expensive, but it is worth it.

Warning Alert!! Once you go to Le Marais, you'll never like any other restaraunts steak. It's dark, loud and cramped but once you start eating you won't care about your surroundings. Tip, try the black pepper steak!!

Good Kosher Chinese Restaurant
Submitted by: Tzipporah on Mar 3rd 2005
Does anyone know of a good kosher chinese restaurant on staten island or either Bklyn or Manhattan?
Thanks

Reply #1 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Mar 8th 2005
In terms of Manhattan, there is only one true Chinese resturant- which would be Eden Wok on 72nd Street and Columbus Ave.
For Brooklyn, if you're in the Marine Park area I highly recommend Shang Chai. In Midwood, Moshi Moshi is technically a Japanese restaurant but they serve many Chinese dishes and the Sesame Chicken happens to be outstanding. And if you're in Borough Park, then China Glatt is for sure the best place to go to. Not sure about Staten Island. Enjoy.

There is no kosher Chinese on SI since Yum Yum Glatt closed. The closest place to SI is Elizabeth NJ which has excellent chinese.

Check out Little Jerusalem Grill in Manhattan at 633 2nd Avenue (34th St). Opened up about a half a year ago and it really does feel like your eating in a little Israeli restaurant in Jerusalem.

Bumble Bee's tuna products all bear the OU kosher symbol. You will be please to know that their "Prime Fillet" Albacore steaks are also going to be OU certified for Passover this year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 212-613-8340.

Tevere (under OU supervision) on 84th St.(between Lexington and 3rd) should really be added on to the New York City List...the food is authentically Italian, the service and ambiance are wonderful, and it's a great place to go with family, friends, or your significant other because it has a certain romantic charm.

NYC Chinatown Kosher Restaurants?
Submitted by: tourist on Feb 7th 2005
As an out of towner, I am having trouble identifying a kosher restaurant in the area of Chinatown. Can anyone help out? Thanks!
Reply to this message
Reply #1 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Feb 7th 2005
The problem is that there aren't any kosher chinese restaurants in Chinatown. The closest kosher restaurant to have Chinese in Manhattan is Mr. Broadway on Broadway & 38th. If you can't go that far, try Essex on Coney Downtown (it's a delicatessen but it's not too far from Chinatown)- and they have very good food. Good luck.

Reply #2 submitted by: tourist on Feb 8th 2005
Thanks. Is there anything Kosher that is not Chinese food in Chinatown?

Reply #3 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Feb 9th 2005
Unfortunately there isn't anything really kosher in the heart of Chinatown. However, Noah's Ark at 399 Grand Street (probably a few blocks outside Chinatown) near Delancey and Essex is the closest. Essex on Coney Downtown (on Trinity Place- bet. Morris St. & Exchange Pl.) and the Village Crown (on 3rd Ave. & 12th St.) are the next closest. Noah's Ark is not on our website, but Essex on Coney Downtown and Village Crown are.

Buddah Bodai on Mott Street (near Worth St.) is a vegitarian restaurant that claims to be kosher. You'll have to check with your Rabbi about the certification.

Le Marais
Submitted by: Moishe Schwartz on Feb 1st 2005
I bought $650 worth of gift certificares for a friend's party at Le Marais and I specifically stipulated that I wanted to take care of their entire bill including the tip. When it came time to pay, the bill came out to about $500 plus about $100 tip. They then refused to accept the gift certificates that I had purchased for that specific purpose for the tip. Long story short if anyone wants $200 in gift certificates to Le Marais I'd sell them for $150 This also goes for any other kosher restaurant just email me at joedra2002@yahoo.com

Moishe,
Normally the restaurants prefer you pay in cash when it comes to the tip, because that goes towards the waiters.

Reply #2 submitted by: leah on Aug 10th 2008
i know you posted this 3 years ago but do you by any chance have any more le Marais certificates?

Best sushi made fresh daily, it's cool to watch the guy making it, and they have all types of fish, too! There's also a kosher meat dept. where you can get fresh cut meat and chicken; tons of Kosher stuff from Jewish and non-Jewish brands.
Word of warning: read labels! make sure what you're holding is kosher! Rabvbi Dovid Beck does the hashgacha (watching).

Skewer's Steak House on Union TPKE. is by far the best steak house in New York. I have tried every steak place in New York, and have never had a finer dining experience. My wife and I have been there every sunday for the past month, and they never sieze to amaze. This place takes the crown off of Hapisgahs' head. What a great Queens treasure, even if you wait slighly longer for your food. They make everything (including desserts) in house. What steak house does that anymore? I love that place. Try it, you will never eat elsewhere! P.S. the Sea Bass is phenomenal.

Hapisgah Steak House
Submitted by: Estelle on Jan 9th 2005
The most delicious steak, shish kebab everything in the world. I had chicken, my husband had the sizzling steak with the onions. We licked our fingers and the plates clean. Huge portion, we had to finish it was too delicious. I wish I lived closer, I would eat there every day. Service great, atmosphere great as well.

Out of all the restraunts in New York Hapisgah is by far our favorite. The decor is beautiful and romantic with wonderful small tables for two. The food is absolutely amazing....no matter what you pick. The house steak on top of mushrooms and onions on a special hot plate is enough foof for two. They have a complete bar to start off your meal with coctails. My wife loves the SOB drink. We could never give a higher recommendation to any eatery as we do for Hapisgah. And the price..you cannot believe how reasonable. Do yourself and loved one a favor and take our advise.
