1868 Restaurant & Bar
Submitted by: elayne gordon on Jan 18th 2006
My sons and I had an outstanding dining experience at 1868. Experience is the only way to describe our nearly three hour meal that seemed to go by all too quickly. The sommelier suggested a lovely wine we had never tried and the wait staff thoroughly described the menu items, encouraging us not to order the same dishes so we could have an opportunity to taste several selections. This was a wise suggestion that enabled everyone at the table to sample several delightful choices. The beautiful presentation was matched by the excellent tasting, very generous portions. An incomparable experience we look forward to repeating in the future.

This is by no means that closest Kosher rest. to the GWB or the northernmost Kosher eatery in Manhattan! Has Washington heights dropped off the map completely?
Reply to this message
Reply #1 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Jan 17th 2006
We do tend to forget about Washington Heights. However, what is written is that it's the "only DAIRY kosher restaurant above 72nd Street" (and by that we mean waiter service restaurant) - we did not write "the northernmost Kosher eatery" and when it's written the "closest kosher restuarant to the GWB" was from a New York City/Manhattan-esque perspective. But you're right, Washington Heights eateries are closer to the GWB and we will fix the wording on that. Thanks for the catch.

Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine Cellars

I just received an e mail from someone who asked the o/u webe rebbe if they certify the Tierra Sur. The response is that the o/u does not certify any restaurants in California. You might want to inform them of the error before it becomes a widespread rumor. Kol Tuv

Sushi now served at Sea Dolphin/Fontana Bella
Submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Jan 10th 2006
Throw Sea Dolphin on the Sushi bandwagon- they are now offering the raw fish delicacy. But the sushi chef and bar is real authentic so put be sure to stop by when you get that sushi craving. FYI - not all sushi is raw, you can get it cooked.

La Creperie
Submitted by: Jill on Jan 10th 2006
The staff was very friendly and accomodating and the service top notch. The food was delicious as would be confirmed by 11 dinner guests. Save room for the dessert crepes because this special treat should not be missed. It did not look as thou you could go wrong with anything you ordered from the menu!

Menus clearly state 15% gratuity included. However, bill comes with additional 15% gratuity charge.
Not good business sense at all. Very deceptive.

That must have been a mistake. That should not have happened. I will speak to the owner about it.

Reply #2 submitted by: Eddie on Jan 9th 2006
First I questioned the waitress who did not know how to respond. Upon exiting, I brought this to the attention of a man who appeared to be a manager. I politely told him that it would be my pleasure to tip the waitress but that if the menu reads "15% gratuity included" I should not be charged again. This fellow refused to acknowledge my concern. I don't care how fancy they want to appear to be; if they are trying to pull a fast one on me I'll never go back and will caution my friends to avoid the place.

Park East Grill

One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The wait was interminable, the prices were outrageous, and at the risk of sounding like a bad joke, the food was poor and the portions were tiny.
Not recommended.

Olympic Pita in Bklyn
Submitted by: Alina on Jan 6th 2006
I placed a delivery order from Olympic Pita on Coney Island in Brooklyn. The kebabs tasted great, BUT, they gave VERY little for the price. I ordered one plate of chicken kebab and one plate of iraqi beef kebab - I got 3 peaces of chicken and one little piece of beef kebab - that cost me $20!!! It's not worth it at all....

Moshi Moshi in Brooklyn
Submitted by: Lil Ilene on Dec 29th 2005
Went the other night with friends (who are not necessarily kosher observant and they LOVED this place and are coming back). Very pleasant experience. Eager and friendly wait staff, outstanding menu choices, delicious food, especially the spring rolls for appetizers - not greasy at all, light, and delicate. Soups were good. All our entrees were great. We spoke to other patrons and they were happy with their choices, too. We were visiting Brooklyn but will certainly go back when we return for another visit. Oh, as an added surprise, we were presented with a gift certificate for our next visit - another incentive :-). As for ambience, the lion fish in the huge aquarium on the back wall was quite impressive! Four thumbs up from our group for Moshi Moshi.

La Carne Grill
Submitted by: D. Kasle on Dec 27th 2005
First visit today; lunch. Wait staff very pleasant and attentive. The food was ok but nothing special especially given the pedigree of the establishment. I had the Mexican Short Rib sandwich which was a modest portion of rather bland shredded beef with lettuce, tomato and avocado on a French roll which was, honestly, the best part of the sandwich. No comparison to the outstanding BBQ Short Rib sandwich at Prime Grill. Given the prices, especially on the dinner menu, I'll stick to Prime; at least it is a proven winner.

I know, it really is sad. In fact, I was there last night for probably my last time and the meal was outstanding, thanks in part to chef extraordinaire, Simon Mann.

My wife and I started off with a flavorful lentil soup and tasty Caprezze Salad and Eggplant Parmesan. For the entrees, I had a wonderful Chilean Sea Bass Toscana style and my wife had a fabulous cheese ravioli dish. Dessert was also divine- Tiramisu and Bavarian Cream with walnuts. Tea and Cappuccino sealed the meal. As you can see we splurged for our last time.

But keep in mind that we are selling Habustan certificates at 50% OFF!!!!

You get a $50 certificate for only $25!!!!!!

You have until Thursday night to go there. But you must call before Monday morning in order to pick it up or for it to be mailed. We will be closed the rest of the week. Call us at 718-336-4201 ASAP.
