what is difference between kosher and glatt kosher foods?
Reply to this message
Reply #1 submitted by: Mitch on Aug 22nd 2007
It's like, More Kosher, Super kosher, Extra Kosher,
Better then just Kosher according to the very religious

Reply #2 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Aug 22nd 2007
Technically, glatt means "smooth" in that the animal where the meat is taken from had no nicks or marks. While most people believe that glatt kosher pertains to all kinds of food, the truth is that meat is the only thing that should really be called glatt kosher.

All other foods, eaten by the "very religious" as the other reader points out, is kosher because a superving agency has inspected it and deems it free of non-kosher ingredients

Reply #3 submitted by: Marshall Epstein on Aug 28th 2007
Besides for the type of kosher meat, different hashgachas. In NY restaurants that call themselves kosher but not glatt kosher tend to be open on shabbat and cater to a mixed clientel, conservative, reform, reconstructionist, and non-jewish. The meat is not always soaked and salted. Glatt kosher is the more reliable for everyone.Check with your local rabbi first before consuming.

Mabat Steakhouse in Teaneck,N.J.
Submitted by: Z.C. on Aug 21st 2007
Could someone please tell me why Mabat raised their prices just because a high priced steakhouse opened up across the street?... I fail to see the logic ...
Reply to this message
Reply #1 submitted by: oded on Sep 21st 2007
Because the meat supplier raised the prices of meat and because utilities costs especially gas were increased.

Reply #2 submitted by: eli one of the owners on Jan 30th 2008
I am happy to respond the meat market is up so those dairy, eggs, oil and flower, you are welcome to check it. I raised the prices 6 months after to late. I tried my best to stall it as match as possible and most of my costumers thank me for that and
if the meat is going to go up again so will I. I bring the best meat that money can buy and I make sure that my costumers get the best in all aspects. I need little to prove that, we all dine according to our pocket. There are a lot of good kosher restaurants in Teaneck. It is the costumers choice where he or she goes to.
As for any other restaurants, I wish them all the best of luck.
But I dont follow, I lead, every one is looking to me and not the other way around, we have been successful for over twenty years.
Its not luck I can assure you , and I am happy to help the less experienced.
All you have to do to is sit at one of my tables and you will understand what I am talking about.
I thank you for your interest and hope to see you enjoying yourself at one of my tables.
Thank you from MABAT

I have been to this restaurant with my fiancee. It was highly recommended by a friend, we came all the way from Passaic. We were extremely satisfied. The food was superb, the taste of the hummus, tahina and falafel reminded us of our last visit to Israel, I recommend to order their large unger steak, the beef tajine and shawarma. They have a large selection of dishes including fish and salads. We plan to bring a large group in October. Their ambience make it a great choice for parties. We highly recommend it!

The Purple Pear in Monsey
Submitted by: Ephraim Rosenberg on Aug 3rd 2007
I recently went to the Purple Pear and ordered, not my usual fettuccini alfredo but, the Fish and Chips instead. Instead of the chips, I was given the choice of having Mashed Potatoes as a substitute. I just wanted to say that I was amazed with every mouthful how delicious it was. The fish was cooked to perfection and I honestly have never had mashed potatoes that taste as good theirs, and I've eaten a lot of mashed potatoes in my lifetime. Boruch Hashem that I live in Monsey so that I can order this unbelievable dish whenever I feel like. The Purple Pear truly has it all, nice atmosphere, clean, fast service, and most importantly unbelievably delicious food. And if you don't feel like dining in, you can order your food, and then go next door to Lishkas HaSofer and shop for seforim while you wait. The Purple Pear will give you a beeper that notifies you when your food is ready.

Park East Grill to close this week!
Submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Jul 30th 2007
To Our Valued Customers,

It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of Park East Grill.
-Our Last Lunch & Dinner Meals Will Be Served On Thursday August 2, 2007
-Our Last Meal Ever Will Be The Shabbat Dinner on Friday August 3, 2007
Our building was recently sold, and we have accepted a buyout offer from our new landlord for the eleven years remaining on our lease. Since the managing partner of Park East Grill will be starting the full time MBA program at Columbia University next month, we have decided against the lengthy and timely process of building and acquiring the necessary permits for a new location.

The catering division of Park East Grill will continue to operate at Park East Kosher located at 1623 Second Avenue between East 84th and East 85th streets with the same executive chef. The catering division is available to cater all types of functions from 2 to 2000 people, as well as provide certified Glatt Kosher Meals on china or disposable plates for anyone attending a function at a non-kosher function. For catering inquiries, please call Murray or Michael at 212-737-9800.
Thank You for your patronage over the past four years.

-The team at Park East Grill
