Cafe Renaissance WHAT DO YOU THINK???
Submitted by: Yael Freedman on Dec 1st 2006
Well, I was today at Cafe Renaissance and we order an L&B style pizza it was amazing...but the appetizer (Portobello Marsalla) was too spicy for me and when I tried to tell the manager about it he said that that's the way they make it there, weird . I think he should've given us something else instead...

Carlos and Gabby's Mexican Cantina (5 towns, NY)
Submitted by: Jonathan Retkinski on Nov 26th 2006
Conveniently located one block away from the 5 Town's famous "Central Avenue", Carlos and Gabby's Mexican Cantina is a stone throw away from one, or perhaps the ONLY authentic kosher mexican resturant in New York (to my knowledge). They offer a wide array of famous mexican cousine, such as burritos, tacos quesedillas, enchiladas, and the like, with all the fixin's inside, such as fresh homemade guacomole, salsa, parve sour cream, and my favorite- the most delicious "parve cheez sauce" to accompany your exotic and delicious meal. There are also traditional american fare, such as hamburgers and french fries, for those who prefer staying on the US side of the mexican border, as well as mouth watering selections fresh, and straight from the grill. In a very casual and relaxed atmosphere, with a very helpful and friendly staff providing exceptional service , I highly recommend this resturant to all who desire the authenticity of mexican/american fare.

I just went to this awesome pretzel store Ive been hearing about in queens. (76-02 main st.) kew gardens hills. It was the best place ever! The pretzels are like the good old days when I ate auntie annes (the non kosher pretzels in the malls) :) anyhow this place different twist cafe has such a cool menu and everything I had was unreal I felt for the first time like I was in a real place. they have...smoothies, sandwiches, coffee, create your own salad like over 30 toppings and great price, frozen yogurst and of course the best pretzel.

Cafe Muscat
Submitted by: Suzanne Lubin on Nov 15th 2006
I just wanted to say that if anyone is around Queens and wants to try out a great Restaurant-they should go to Cafe Muscat- By the way Elan-long time no speak- can you give a good vegetarian restaurant in the Tri-State area?

Reply #1 submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Nov 16th 2006
Hi Sooz,

Yes, it has been a long time since you called (Suzie, for all of you out there, is my long lost cousin).
Anyway, Cafe Muscat is a fantastic restaurant but you need to be more specific with your vegetarian search. The Tri-State is a huge area.
But are you looking for a good "vegetarian-only" restaurant or can it be a dairy place that has very good "vegetarian dishes. Because you'll find more with the latter.

Speak to you in a couple of years (or hopefully earlier).

Shilo's
Submitted by: LSW on Nov 15th 2006
Food was very good, service was also good, but was extremely disappointed that they did not have Prime Rib as I haven't had it for years (since I've been keeping kosher). I called before the Grand Opening, asked if they had Prime Rib and was told "Of course!" So for my birthday we drove from Orange County, only to be told that Prime Rib is only Sun & Thurs. Sadly, "of course" doesn't translate to Sun & Thurs. only. Not even the menu says Sun & Thurs only. Preferably, they should serve Prime Rib every night or they should clearly indicate the days on which it's served and stick to it.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your positive comments. We do apologize for your disappointment and hope you understand that being a new restaurant our menu has been through a few changes since our grand opening. We have it stated on the menu that Prime Rib is available on Thursday & Sunday only.
Please come and join us on those days and we promise you will not be disappointed. It's delicious!

Amazon Cafe
Submitted by: Sara on Nov 12th 2006
Terrible place near kings highway. We waited for 20 minutes in an empty cafe just for the waitress to bring us a menu. While another couple walked in after us and were served with coffee and had their meal within 7-8 minutes. Ridiculous, I am never going there again and I will tell my friends the same.

Actually I agree with Sara...

I used to go to this place all the time and loved it.. For no particular reason, I hadn't gone for several months... When I went just recently, they had all new staff-- not one person I recognized. I was with 5 other people... Our pasta took 40 minutes to come and the waitress was downright rude when we asked why it is taking so long. Then to make it better they brought one slice of cake on the house (keep in mind we were SIX people...) hello?!?!

Reply #3 submitted by: alyssa on Mar 9th 2008
actually, u guys are all crazy!!!!i agree with david! amazon is a GREAT restaurant!!!!the staff is friendly (israeli no wonder!) the food is excellent(and does NOT take 40 min. just to arrive, and YES...i came with EIGHT ppl!) and the atmosphere feels like home so wtvr!

ALDENTE
Submitted by: D on Nov 11th 2006
I recently ate at Al Dente after shabbat and I can't believe how bad the service was. The food is good, but not worth waiting over an hour for while the waitress forgets to put certain orders in. It was also not enjoyable listening to the chef yell at one of the waitresses.

Since The Village Crown closed up a few months ago there really isn't anything there, especially with a good supervision.
The closest restaurant might be Essex on Coney Downtown (meat) in the Wall Street area and Circa-ny (dairy) on Dey Streey near the World trade Center site.
