Dear Elan,

Why don't you list other kosher restaurants? Isn't it sort of misleading that you only list a few? Do you charge restaurants to be listed? How much do you charge?

Thank you Zalman for your question and interest.

First off, we feature over 175 top kosher restaurants from around the world - I wouldn't call that a few.

Second, the fact is that there are literally hundreds of kosher restaurants websites out there with just "listings" for people to view. Usually you get the name, number and address and many times that info is outdated. 4 years ago, I decided to take a different approach and based on our #3 top-ranking on Google I would say it was a smart one.

On our site you will mostly see fine dining, waiter-service restaurants with stunning color photos, full menus, articles, etc. We do not feature pizza stores, fast food restaurants or the equivalant of 1-star restaurants.

Our restaurants are selected based on recommendations from reliable sources, ratings, reviews, as well as our own dining experiences and yes, are charged a small fee to be included to maintain the design and quality of both the magazine and website.

We take pride in that our magazine is the most upscale and beautfiul magazine ever produced in the Jewish market - after all, it sells in Barnes & Noble Bokstores. And the same goes for the website - I believe we are the nicest kosher restaurant website out there and 2 million hits a month seems to prove that.

If you have a restaurant and are interested in being featured please email me.

Thank you.

SyMall.com Names WENDY’S PLATE 2007 Kosher Restaurant of the Year
Submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Mar 28th 2007
Press Release: This year, for the first time ever, Symall.com is announcing our selection for kosher restaurant of the year. This contest is designed for at least two reasons. One is to reward this fine establishment for their very serious efforts and excellence in serving our readership, and the other is to motivate and inspire other establishments to strive for the necessary improvements that will provide our community with the standards that we a) would like to have, b) are willing to pay for and are paying for already, and c) we deserve.

Wendy’s plate has exhibited both the talent and concern to not only meet, but to set the standards that our people are entitled to, during their fine dining experiences. Wendy’s is acutely aware of the importance of being a “nice restaurant”, including the need for a consistently fine ambience and agreeable décor. The atmosphere in Wendy’s is one of a restaurant, not a cafeteria, - and is conducive to meeting the expectations that one should be allowed to have when it comes to visiting a restaurant. Whether for business meetings, anniversaries, make ups, breakups, marriage proposals, mother’s day, family or friends birthdays, etc.- Wendy’s Plate will come through every time with terrific food and a comfortable atmosphere to enjoy your meal in.

The management at Wendy’s Plate is knowledgeable enough about the restaurant business to know that the service is as important as the food. There are no amateurs here, only and strictly professionals. Rachel, the main and very well known waitress in Wendy’s has evolved into a member of our community that enjoys celebrity-level status, and is considered to be like family to hundreds, if not thousands of our people. She is a delight to be greeted by, a delight to watch in action greeting others as they come in, and a pleasure to spend a few minutes ordering your meal from and being served by.

As far as the food, Wendy’s Plate is a restaurant where favorites flourish. There are so many great dishes, and I can’t think of one bad one. My personal favorite is the Planked Salmon, grilled on cedar wood, and served with roasted potatoes and vegetables. The flavor comes from the spices and the wood. The fish is always as fresh as can be, and this may be the healthiest and most satisfying meal I can think of anyplace. For a perfect change of pace, the Tuna Bourbon, pan seared, with a bourbon light cream sauce, is also incredible. I have seen many friends show up, especially the women, craving the Macaroni & Cheese, described on the menu as baked with creamy cheddar cheese till crisp on top and creamy on the inside.

In short, all of their fish dishes, including the occasional blackboard specials such as the current Walnut Crusted Baked Flounder, are exceptional. Similarly, the pasta dishes, of which there are 14 listed on the menu, plus a few more on the blackboard, are always fresh, creative, and delicious. Combination fish & pasta dishes such as the Linguini with Salmon and the East West Pasta (with fresh tuna and wasabi) also deserve special mention.

Also featuring wraps, sushi, pizza and omelettes, Wendy’s Plate is perhaps best known for it salads. The “Kitchen Sink” served with the restaurants own balsamic vinaigrette, in my opinion is easily the best take out item in all of Brooklyn, with or without the optional side order of fresh grilled tuna or salmon, or a scoop of tuna salad. Every one of their salads is fresh, healthy, and really delicious including the Greek Salad, Caesar Salad, Mesclun Salad, Nicoise Salad, and the Tuna Garden Salad with the honey mustard vinaigrette dressing.

Coffee and dessert at Wendy’s is its own special pleasure. They have a few fabulous desserts, but I am only going to mention the Hot Chocolate Melting Cake served with Vanilla Ice Cream. This perfect ending to a magnificent meal cannot be described with words, so I won’t even attempt to.

SyMall.com salutes and congratulates Wendy’s Plate, and the proprietors, Wendy and Gabe Levy, for their record of and fine dedication to excellence, and for being this year’s winners and recipients of our award. We thank the Levy’s for helping us to distinguish the difference between a business person who enters into the restaurant field, and a true restaurateur.

Wendy’s Plate is located at 434 Avenue U in Brooklyn. They are under the Kosher Supervision of Rabbi Gornish. For take out orders, questions, or reservations, call the restaurant at 718 376 3125

that review is very moving, and I want to travel to new york just to check out the restaurant. I am happy that they won the award and wish them hatzlacha rabbah. so many kosher places serve steak, deli, etc. and to find one that offers delicious fresh fish is wonderful. good soup is also important in the winter months. symall is kind to bring such a nice place to our attention. we need more great kosher places to go on special occasions like wendys, which sounds so nice.

BREAKING NEWS: Eden Wok Manhattan is closed!
Submitted by: Elan Kornblum, Publisher on Mar 27th 2007
Eden Wok on 72nd Street is closed. Lease was not renewed. You can still catch them on 34th & Park Ave., but this is pretty shocking.

Also, 2 weeks ago Dougie's in Miami closed down.
And that's after Al Dente in Brooklyn closed a couple of weeks ago.

What's going on?
